Ryan’s parents are Michele and stepfather Bob Rose and Doug and stepmom Cindy Anderson. He has an older brother, Brandon, currently serving in the Army.
Ryan began his football career in fifth grade playing for the Dewitt Junior Panthers. He started at wide receiver and punter as a junior. He received first team All Conference Honorable Mention for receiver and first team All Area for punter as a junior (2011). He was named a team captain in his senior year and went on to set a school record of 80 receptions in a single season as well as accumulating over 1,200 receiving yards putting him in the MHSAA record book. He tallied 16 receiving touchdowns and one passing touchdown his senior season. He holds the record for the most yards punting in a single season and in a career. He was named Best Back by his teammates and also received the Captains Award. Ryan earned first team All League, first team All Area, Lansing State Journal Dream Team, Detroit News first team All State, Detroit Free Press first team All State, and AP All State Honorable Mention.
Ryan also played four years of basketball and baseball through his sophomore year. After his junior basketball season, he received first team All Area, first team All League Honorary Captain, Best Offensive Player, and Chairman of the Board. A fantastic senior basketball season came to an end in districts. Ryan has accepted a scholarship to play football at Saginaw Valley State University.
Ryan thanked his family and friends, some who traveled across country to watch games, as well as his teammates and coaches. Ryan said, “I am extremely thankful for all the support my family and friends have shown throughout the years.” He also said, “I was blessed to have Rob Zimmerman as a head coach. Coach was there to push me day in and day out.” He added, “I am very thankful for having such an amazing coaching staff who pushed me to be the best player and leader that I could be, allowing me to achieve my long time goal of playing in the All Star game and at the collegiate level.
