Mike started at fullback and middle linebacker for the Oilers in both his junior and senior seasons. In his junior year, Mike tallied 91 tackles on defense and was second on the team in rushing with 438 yards and 8 touchdowns on his way to being selected as the team’s Rookie of the Year. Mike was selected as captain his senior year, during which he amassed 1302 yards rushing on only 151 carries and scored 16 times. He also led the team in tackles with 93 and was second on the team in receptions. He was selected as Most Valuable Offensive Back and voted team MVP. His class was the first at Mt. Pleasant to be part of two playoff teams.
Mike ran track for three years and finished his senior year running track for the Oilers. He earned a varsity letter in track his freshman year. In 2003, his best shot put was a toss of 47’10.5″ He took first place at the Morning Sun Meet of Champions in the Shot Put. His junior year brought him six first place finishes in the discus. He took second place at the Morning Sun Meet of Champions with a throw of 154’8″, his personal best in the discus. He was an All State finisher at the state meet with an eighth place in the discus. He had five first place finishes in the shot put.
Michael thanked his parents for their support and encouragement both on and off the field. He thanked his family and friends for cheering him on at every game. He gave thanks to all of his coaches, “for their endless hours of dedication to the sport of football, my teammates for working together as one unit to be the best we could be, and for the community for supporting Mt. Pleasant athletics.”
