Head Coach – Mike Zdebski
Walled Lake Western High School
Mike Zdebski graduated from Garden City HS. He is an alumnus of Olivet College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Michigan State University.
Mike will begin his 27th year of coaching football in the fall. He has coached in Garden City, Berkley, and has served the Walled Lake Schools for the last 21 years. Coach Zdebski started off as the defensive coordinator at and eventually moved into the head coaching position at Western.
He is only the fifth head coach at Western since the doors opened in 1969. In his time at Western, they have qualified for the state playoffs fifteen times, won two state championships, four regional championships, and four district championships. Western is also proud of their seven Academic All State Team awards and four Spicer Awards for community service.
Mike has two sons, Brent and Trevor. Brent was a two-time All State football player and played for the East All Star team in 2012. He is attending the University of Pittsburgh. Trevor is a three-time All State wrestler going into his senior year of high school. Coach Zdebski and his wife Wendy, reside in Wolverine Lake.
Mike said, “It is an honor to coach in the very first Border Classic game and to represent the State of Michigan against our opponent from Ohio. I hope that our staff had a positive affect on the young men we coached this year and that we have built relationships that will last a lifetime. Our coaches and players have worked extremely hard in preparation for this game starting last December, I want to thank them for making this a memorable experience. Finally, I want to thank the coaches association for allowing us to coach in this game.”

Mike is going into his 26th year of coaching football. He has coached in Garden City and Berkley, and has served the Walled Lake Schools for the last 20 years.
