Matthew started playing football in the fourth grade for the Ogemaw Browns. He played at Ogemaw Heights three years as a varsity starter at quarterback. He earned All Conference all three years. He was awarded the Bay City Times Golden Helmet twice, was a member of the Bay City Times Dream Team and a member of the All State Team. In his senior year he started as a punter, where he earned an All Conference First Team. Matthew also earned the respect of his fellow football players being voted MVP for the past two years. Over his three year varsity career Matthew set 28 out of 43 offensive school records including: most yards rushing in a single game, 275; longest run in a game, 82 yards; and most points in a game, 26. Matthew led his team last fall to a Regional final appearance and the school’s third District Championship.
Matthew also played four years of basketball and baseball. He was a three year starter in both sports. Matthew’s Senior League Baseball team from West Branch went to the World Series in Eastley, South Carolina in 2006.
Matthew will attend Central Michigan University on a baseball scholarship. He thanked Coach Pratley, Coach Vanoosten and Coach Peace. “I thank my friends for being there for me over the past four years. I also thank my Mom and Matt, my Dad, my Grandma and Grandpa, my brothers and the rest of my family for all their support.”
