Matt was a three-year starter and two-year captain for the Caledonia Fighting Scots, where he played running back, cornerback, and free safety. As a sophomore he was brought up to start at corner the entire season, and was a key contributor in bringing home his school’s first State Championship. In his junior year he started both ways averaging over seven yards per carry on offense and led his team to a back-to-back Regional Championship. During his senior year he amassed over 1100 yards on the ground and anchored the defense as he moved to safety.
While excelling at football, Matt maintained a 4.07 GPA during his high school career. He participated in track and field and planed to play lacrosse to finish out his senior year. He was a member of the National Honor Society, a school mentor, and volunteers regularly.
Matt thanked his family for “all their encouragement and support through the many memorable games and accomplishments.” He also thanked his friends, school, and community for, “providing so much spirit and making Friday nights so special.” Hesaid, “I am honored and grateful to represent the Caledonia Fighting Scots in the 28th Annual All-Star Game.
