Kevin didn’t begin playing football until seventh grade. In middle school he played quarterback, kicker and punter. As both a freshman and sophomore, Kevin was the starting quarterback, kicker and punter on the JV team. As a JV he kicked 9 field goals, was 25 of 29 on extra points and averaged 32 yards per punt. As a junior, Kevin was the starting kicker and punter. He kicked a school record 12 field goals in 13 games including a school record 50 yarder and was 48 of 50 on extra points for a total of 84 kicking points. As a punter he averaged 34 yards per punt with 15 of 32 punts inside the 20-yard line. Kevin also averaged 64 yards per kick with 47 touchbacks on 64 kickoffs. As a senior, Kevin was voted captain by his teammates. He started at quarterback, kicker and punter. He threw for 966 yards with 6 TD passes and ran for another 438 yards with 5 rushing touchdowns. He kicked 12 field goals in 10 games including a school record 52 yarder and was 32 of 33 on extra points. He scored a total of 98 points. He increased his average punt to 37 yards with 9 out of 28 inside the 20-yard line. He also improved his kick-off average to 66 yards with 43 touchbacks on 52 kickoffs. Kevin was awarded the “Colt of the Year” at the end of his senior season and maintained his scholar athlete status throughout his four years.
Kevin also played varsity basketball and was on the track team. He played with his travel soccer team in the Premier Division of MSPSP, winning the Division 1 championship his junior year. He was also a member of the Jazz Band, National Honor Society and served on the Peer Mediation team.
Kevin thanked his football coaches for, “always pushing me to be the best I could be and taking my game to the next level,” especially Coach Barbato “who was always there helping me stay positive.” He thanked kicking coach, Eddie Murray, his mom and sisters, Megan and Emily, for “their unconditional support from the beginning of my football career.” He gave a special thanks to his father, “who did an outstanding job as the head of the football-shagging committee.” Kevin thanked his soccer coach, Coach Si, for “teaching me how to compete and be successful in anything I do” and “Grams, Gramps, Aunt Donna, Jules, Kelly, Shae, and Paige.” Kevin gave a big thanks to all of his friends and teammates, especially the Troy Colts ‘09 football captains; he “couldn’t have done it without them.” Lastly, Kevin thanked all of the teachers and administrators at Troy High for “being so helpful and supportive throughout my career.”
