Jaylen’s football career “has been a bumpy road.” He was on varsity all four of his years of high school. He played tight end, wide receiver, defensive end, defensive tackle and outside linebacker. He said, “I still remember my first high school catch, it was against Inkster my freshman year and it was a one-handed catch and what made it better was that it was pass interference and the crowd went nuts!” His sophomore year produced the best team in Carman-Ainsworth history. as they made it to the semi-finals where they lost to Clarkston, who later won the State Championship. About his the first two years, Jaylen said, “I didn’t produce much because I was still learning.” In his junior season “I started to come out of my shell.” As a senior he led the team in tackles and was a team captain all season. “My best game my senior season was against Powers, I had about 13 solo tackles.”
Jaylen was a part of the AASA (African American Student Association), was a three-year varsity basketball starter and an All-Conference in basketball. He also earned All-Conference recognition in track and field.
Jaylen thanked, “All of my high school football and basketball coaches for pushing me to be better every single day. My parents are the main reason why I’m in the position I’m in now and I appreciate them greatly. Next year I will be furthering my athletic and educational career at Saginaw Valley.”
