James has played football since he was eight. He played his freshman year at Brother Rice HS, his sophomore year at Bishop Foley HS and completed his high school career at Lamphere where he was awarded Team MVP in his senior year.
James also played varsity basketball, varsity baseball, and AAU Track.
James said, “My three biggest memories from this football season are; being offered a scholarship with the University of Michigan, my state record 99 yard kick-off return for a touchdown against Madison Heights Madison, and my 305 yards on 26 carries for 6 touchdowns along with my 50 yard kickoff returns for a touchdown (total 7 TD’s) accounting for all of my team’s 44 points in a 44-18 win over Lakeview.
“I give special thanks to my father who was my personal trainer from the age of eight, all of my other parents, family members and friends.” In addition he thanked, “all of my football coaches throughout my youth years and the MHSFCA for the invitation to play in this All-Star game.” He also thanked University of Michigan, Coach Lloyd Carr and all of the other football coaches, trainers, and players, “for having the confidence in my ability to play along side the best of the best for the next four years.”
