Derric is the son of Wanda Wolbr and Anthony Williams Sr. He has an older brother, Anthony, who attends The University of Michigan and five younger sisters, Antonisha (14), Toni (11), Tia (9), Aja (5) and Aliyah (4).
Derric began playing football in seventh grade at Lincoln Junior High School in Pontiac. He moved with his family to Lake Orion as a sophomore and played the final three years of his prep career for the Dragons of Lake Orion. Derric was a two year starter for the Dragons at outside linebacker. He led the team in quarterback sacks as a junior. As a senior he again led the team in sacks and tackles for loss, but also led the team in tackles. As a senior, he was elected a co-captain and he helped lead the Dragons to an 11-2 season highlighted by a District Championship, a Regional Championship and a berth in the state semi-finals where the Dragons lost to Cass Tech 35-27. Following the season, Derric was selected all league first team, Defensive Co-MVP by his teammates, 1st team All Oakland County, 1st Team All North, 1st Team All Metro, and Division One 1st Team All-State. Derric accepted a football scholarship to play at Eastern Michigan University.
When thinking back on his football career, Derric said, “I thank my mom, coaches, family, teammates, the Dragon football family, staff at both Pontiac and Lake Orion, and the entire community of Lake Orion for being with me on my journey and helping to make me the person I am today.”
