David Potter lives in Monroe with his wife of 34 years, Joyce. They have three children: Jeffrey played for his dad at Jefferson and was captain of Hillsdale College football team in 1997. Stephanie is a graduate of Northwood University, and is currently working for an advertising company. Matthew is a senior at Grand Valley State University, and lettered in swimming.
David has been teaching at Jefferson High School for 31 years, and has been chairman of the physical education department the last fourteen years. He also worked for Frenchtown Township for 26 years the last 11 as Director of Recreation.
David coaches football at Jefferson High School and has been the Defensive Coordinator the last 30 years. He has coached wrestling, swimming, and currently is the assistant girls track coach. He helped lead the Jefferson Bears to the class BB state title in 1994. He has received the MHSFCA award for Assistant Coach of the year and was inducted into the MHSFCA Football Hall of Fame in 2001. He has coached in the Monroe County All Star Football game three years, twice as the head coach and has won every game. He said, “It is truly a great honor to be selected to coach some of the best high school players in the great state of Michigan.”
