His younger brother, Justin (16), is currently a sophomore at Alma High School and participates in football, basketball and baseball.

Curtis started his football career in third grade in Breckenridge. In high school he was a part of the JV team for half the season (where he was coached by his father), before getting the call up to varsity. He played his sophomore season on varsity. He transferred to Alma High School soon after his sophomore season concluded. At Alma he started at the offensive tackle. He earned First Team All State offensive line in both his junior and senior seasons.

In addition to playing football, Curtis participated in basketball all four years of high school. He played baseball his freshman year and participated in track and field for the remainder of his high school days. Off the field, Curtis is a member of the 4H program, as well as a Youth For Christ student leader.

Curtis thanked, “My parents for always being there for me. I have them to thank for getting me to where I am today. My dad pushed me to be a physical force on the field and more importantly an honor roll student in the class room. My mom is always there for me when I come out of the locker room and loves me the same whether I had made the game winning fumble recovery, or we got beat by 20 at homecoming.” Curtis said, “I am very thankful for my brothers, they are my best friends, and always will be. They have made me stronger as an athlete and an individual.” He also said, “I thank my girlfriend Madysen Stoneman. She is my number one fan in everything I do.” Curtis has a large extended family, “that is always there to cheer me on and cannot wait to see what I do with my future football career at Western Michigan University.” He also thanked his football coaches, “Coach Lark and Coach Ingersoll have not only been the best coaches I could ask for but have been “father figure” men in my life who I can never thank enough.” He gave a special thank you to Coach Falor, Coach Seeley, Coach Humm, and Coach Huff for their support. “Last but not least I thank, “God for blessing me with the life I have. I have truly been blessed. You can’t tell me I did this on my own. God gave me this opportunity, and I am thankful for that.”
