Cody is the son of Doug and Marla Ross. He has an older brother Brett (20) who attends Northwood University. His grandparents are James and Janet Jones, and Alayne and the late Bruce Carney.
Cody started his football career in 7th grade. He played on the varsity team as a sophomore as fullback. As a junior, Cody was elected as a team captain and played both ways as outside linebacker and fullback. He rushed for 875 yards on 135 carries with 9 touchdowns. In his senior year, Cody’s team won a conference title and a District playoff title while he rushed for 1024 yards on 114 carries despite playing only seven games due to injury. He averaged 8.98 yards per carry with 16 touchdowns. He was named Offensive MVP and Best Running Back by his teammates. Cody finished his career at Deckerville with 2404 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Cody also participated in powerlifting and track where he earned honors. In powerlifting, Cody placed 4th overall at states as a sophomore. As a junior, he placed 11th overall at states. In track for his junior year, Cody qualified for states in the 100m and 200m sprints. Cody was also a member of the National Honors Society.
Cody thanked his parents and grandparents “for always being at each game supporting me” and his brother for “pushing me to be the best player on the field and being there.” He also thanked Coach Bill Brown, Coach Dan Brown, Coach Jimmy Tanton, Coach Steve Blashill, Coach Lou Garza, Coach Justin Trowhill, and Coach Mike Blaine, “for pushing me to succeed throughout my whole career, without them I would not be the person that I am today.” He gave a “special thanks to my teammates, especially the offensive line for a great senior season.”
