Cody was a three-year starter for the Bay City Western Warriors. Playing numerous positions including running back, full back, tight end, wide receiver, linebacker and on occasion punter. Cody played both sides of the ball all three years. He led the Warriors in tackles in both his junior and senior years. In his sophomore year Cody helped Western achieve its first District Championship. In 2004 he was the team captain and MVP and he helped the Warriors bring home their first Saginaw Valley League Championship.
Cody also was involved in baseball his freshman year. He participated in track all four years. He played basketball in his freshman through junior years and was elected captain his junior year. He received honorable mention his junior year in basketball. Cody puts forth a lot of time into Relay For Life, and other community services.
Cody thanked his Mom and Dad for making him, “the Christian I am today,” and thanked his aunts, uncles, cousins, brother, and sister for all their guidance and love. He thanked his coaches for taking their own time to study film with him, and wanting the Warriors to be the best, and to be a part of his life outside of football. Cody thanked his Granddad Backenstose and friend “Lil’ Charlie” for, “always being there to support and give advice.” Cody thanked his friends for all the memories and he thanked, “God for the many blessings I have been bestowed.”
