Charlie is the son of Jon and Susan Hess. He has one sister. Abby (20) who attends Western Michigan University.
Charlie started his football career in Grandville Rocket Football, playing quarterback. He switched over to tight end his freshman year of high school. In his sophomore year he also played tight end. He began playing center his junior year and during his senior year he started at both center and the nose guard position. He earned several team awards: He was named as a team leader, captain and MVP, and was awarded the Bulldog Tenacity Award, given to the player showing tremendous attitude, dedication and work ethic.
In addition to football, Charlie played freshman and JV basketball, and freshman, JV and varsity baseball.
Charlie thanked his parents and his sister Abby for their continued support and his extended family and friends for, “the encouragement they have given me throughout my life.” He also thanked his coaches, who, “throughout my career have helped me be the best I could be.” Charlie gave a special thank you to Coach Scot Shaw and his staff for, “helping make this past year the best ever.”
