Boyd is the son of Charles and Alethea Meeker. He has two younger siblings, a sister Logan and a brother Garrett.
Boyd started playing football when he was six years old for the Mason County Youth Raiders. He played quarterback for the Raiders until eighth grade when he began playing for Ludington Area Schools. His high school football career began on the JV team where he played as a starting quarterback and safety. He was moved up to the varsity team late in his sophomore year where he was able to earn his first varsity letter in football. After early success in his junior year, Boyd missed several games due to a shoulder separation. Boyd served as a team captain both junior and senior seasons. His senior year he compiled eight weekly awards for both offense and defense. He earned Mr. Big Time and Mr. Collision Awards by the coaching staff at the end of the year. His senior year Boyd led his team to five straight victories to earn a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 1999. In 2011 Boyd accumulated 2,000 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, rushed for 710 yards, and ran for 11 touchdowns. Defensively Boyd led his team with 101 tackles.
Boyd was a two-year member of the National Honor Society and also excelled in golf and basketball throughout his high school career. Boyd earned four varsity letters for golf, All Conference Honors 2008-2011, All Region 2010-2011, individual District Medalist 2009-2011, District and Regional Championships 2009-2011. He and his team advanced to the state finals in 2009. Boyd played three years of basketball at the varsity level. His senior year he served as captain. Additionally, he earned All-Conference Honors.
Boyd will attend Grand Valley State University in the fall of 2012 where he plans to pursue a career in healthcare. Boyd thanked his parents, coaches, teammates, and family for their continued support and guidance throughout his academic and athletic endeavors.
