Dave Woodcock
At the Fall Meeting of the MHSFCA Board of Directors, Dave Woodcock was selected as the winner of the 2002 Crowley Award. The award was officially presented at the Clinic Luncheon in Battle Creek before a crowd of 600 coaches. The Crowley Award is presented annually to a person who has promoted high school football in the State of Michigan and also contributed to our Association.
Dave Woodcoack is a graduate of Saginaw St. Mary Cathedral High School, class of 1953. He graduated from Hope College in 1958 and received his master’s degree from Wayne State in 1969. Dave married his college sweetheart, Parmelia in 1958. Dave and Parm are the proud parents of Lynne, Susan, Patricia, Charles and Michael and have eight grandchildren. His 41 years of high school coaching have taken Dave and his wife to Romulus, Brown City, Port Huron Catholic, Flint Southwestern, Royal Oak Shrine, Detroit Catholic Central, Gaylord St. Mary’s, Belding, Jenison, Fremont and back to Jenison this past season where he assisted Coach Dave Larkin and his staff as they took the Wildcats to the State Finals.
Included in Dave’s 205-95-5 record are many league championships and playoff appearences, as well as individual accolades including induction into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame (96), the Detroit Catholic League Hall of Fame (87), the MIchigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame (96) and the Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame (98).
Coach Woodcock has been involved with the Board of Directors of the MHSFCA since 1982 and has served as Regional Director, Committee Chair and committee member and as President in 1993. Dave has been a tireless worker for the organization. He is always in attendance at meetings and organization sponsored events such as the Battle Creek Clinic, Hall of Fame weekend and the All Star Game (which he coached in 1985) and is always ready to lend a hand to make certain that things get done. If that means setting up tables and chairs for the Hall of Fame Banquet, introducing speakers at the clinic, supervising players in their dorm rooms during All Star week, or working the tunnel at the game, Dave will get it done.
