Alex’s football career began as a 10 year old in the Blue Water Football Youth League. In middle school, he played both offense and defense until 10th grade when he settled in on the offensive line as a tackle. On varsity, Alex was a two year starter for Coach Jason VanDerMaas. As a junior, Alex helped his team capture a BWAC Co-League Championship, District and Regional Championships and assisted the Pioneers in reaching the District 4 semi-finals of the MHSAA state tournament. As a senior, Alex was a co-captain for the Pioneers and the team finished the season 7-3. For the first time in 11 years, the Pioneers were named outright BWAC League Champions. Alex was awarded the Cros-Lex Football 2009 Badgero Award for Most Outstanding Lineman and the Cros-Lex Football 2009 Captains Award. Alex is the first Croswell-Lexington athlete to be chosen to participate in the East-West All Star Game.
Alex also participated in shot put and discus on the track team. He helped the track team become League and Regional Champions in 2007 and 2009. Alex participated in Power Lifting for 2 years and was a member of the Sanilac Career Center Engineering & Design SAE Baja Car Team.
Alex thanked, “God for all the blessings I have received.” He also thanked his “parents, siblings, my wonderful grandparents and my aunts, uncles and cousins for their continued love, support and for coming to my games throughout my career.” Alex thanked all his football coaches, “for shaping my junior high and high school careers, with a special thank you to Coach Jason VanDerMaas and Coach Chris Zelinski for all that they have done for me.” Alex said, “I have sincerely appreciated the unconditional support and help they have given me and for encouraging me to be the best player I could be.” Alex concluded by thanking, “my friends and my 2008 and 2009 C-L football teammates because I could not have done anything without them by my side.”
