Martell was a three-year starter on the Pontiac Northern Huskies varsity team. He played both offense and defense all three years. He was voted team captain in both his junior and senior seasons. He was also selected MVP in his junior and senior seasons. Martell finished his senior season with over 1,000 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He was selected All Conference twice by the Oakland Press and was named pre-season All-American by Tom Lemming, All-American by CSTV and second team All-American by USA Today. He was selected for the US Army All American 2006-2007 game.
Martell also was a three-year starter on the varsity basketball team.
Martell thanked his mom and dad, “for never missing a game, my brothers for encouraging me and the rest of the family and friends for their support.” He also thanked all his coaches and teachers for their guidance. In addition, he thanked the sports writers and media for their acknowledgment of his accomplishments. “Most of all, I thank God for all his wonderful blessings.”
