Since the age of three when Kenneth Smith asked for his training wheels to be removed he has been very competitive. He took off like he had been riding forever and hasn’t stopped since. At four years old Kenneth started hockey. He excelled and was soon known not only as the biggest but the strongest. Known as “Knuckle Puck,” he scored the most hat tricks of the season. Kenneth next ventured into baseball, not T-ball (he was too big). Again he excelled, and played pitcher, catcher and 1st base. He was known to hit that ball out of the park and catch everything that came his way. Basketball gave him an advantage with his height and his confidence as he became the best rebounder and had the best point average.
After six grade, football was the only sport that he couldn’t play because of his size. He had become too tall, too solid to meet the weight restrictions. He was crushed, but was allowed to practice with the high school. This kept him in condition and gave him recognition. When he attended high school he started his freshman year by replacing another player, who was a senior. The coaches expected a lot and he delivered. Kenneth played “every position known to football.” As a wide receiver, he missed no passes he caught everything. As tight end, he missed no tackles, as a quarter back he found his man. As a lineman, he made his sacks. As a safety, he left no open doors. Then, as a running back, he gained over 300 yards and scored five touchdowns. On defense, he had five tackles in one game.
Kenneth has been named to Who’s Who in Sports, was awarded All Catholic League, All State, M.V.P., Most Loyal, and Most Improved. He was a starter for four years in football, basketball and track. He was a, “team player and an all around athlete.”
