Steve was a two-year, two-way starter for the Portage Northern Huskies during his junior and senior years. He played right tackle and defensive right tackle. Steve was honored by his teammates during his senior year by being voted “Hog of the Year,” Most Valuable Lineman.
Steve gave wrestling a shot during his junior year and was the recipient of the Most Improved Wrestler Award. During his senior year, at the insistence of one of his coaches, Steve entered his first power lifting competition, which just happened to be the State Power Lifting Championships, and won first place in the 275+ Weight Class.
Steve thanked all of his coaches that, “helped me along the way.” He is, “especially grateful to Coach Pete Schermerhorn and Coach Man Kamm for giving me a chance to achieve all of my dreams.” Steve also thanked his teammates for their, “friendship and the great times throughout our time together in high school.” Finally, Steve thanked his family and friends for showing their support over the years.
