There is nothing quite like high school football and Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, is looking forward to hosting the 2023 MHSAA Football Finals, Saturday, November 25 and Sunday, November 26, 2023!
For the past 27 seasons, at the conclusion of the high school football season, the Detroit Lions have selected a High School Football Coach of the Year. This year’s recipient will be determined by the votes of our 5 high school football media panelists and you, the public. You will have the opportunity to visit www.DetroitLions.com/coachoftheyear to vote for one of 18 nominees. The nominees are determined by the 16 schools who win their state semi-final game in 11-man football and the 2 schools who win their state championship in 8-man football. All of these games take place on Saturday, November 18.
From Sunday, November 19-Sunday, November 26, you will have the opportunity to vote for your Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Year. At the conclusion of voting, the one coach who has the most online votes will receive one vote overall to go along with the votes of our 5 high school football media panelists. The votes will be tallied and the Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Year will be announced the week of November 27.
The winning coach’s school/athletic department receives a $3000 grant from the Detroit Lions and the NFL Foundation. This individual also becomes the Detroit Lions nominee for the Don Shula NFL High School Football Coach of the Year and will recognized in an on-field ceremony prior to the Detroit Lions-Denver Broncos game in mid-December (game date yet to be determined).
