Jake is the son of Sam Daugherty and Kim McCane. He has a sister, Kate (24), and two brothers, Zach (23) and Aaron (20).
Jake grew up playing ball with his older brothers and participated in Rocket Football since age 6. He was a four-year varsity letterman for Big Rapids High School and a three-year starter on both offense and defense. Jake was a three-time all Central State Athletic Association (CSAA) lineman and in his senior year became the first player in school history to be voted First Team All CSAA on both offense (tackle) and defense (middle linebacker). In 2011 Jake was voted First Team All State Defensive End by the Detroit Free Press and has been selected to the All Area Pioneer Dream Team for three consecutive years.
Jake was also a four-year letter winner on the Big Rapids basketball team and served as captain in both football and basketball in both his junior and senior years. During Jake’s high school career he competed in the MHSAA football playoffs twice, won two District Championships in basketball, and a Regional Championship in 2013.
Jake thanked his mom and dad for their support during his high school career, his sister and brothers for “always being there” for him, and “the Cardinal Nation who have been so supportive throughout my career.”

unter is the son of Dave and Joy Folkertsma. He has an older sister, Taylor (19), who swims for MSU.
Hunter began playing football in fourth grade for Forest Hills Youth Football. “He fell in love with the sport and once high school hit, he soon set the goal to play college football.” He was a captain his senior year and played both ways as tight end, defensive end, and long snapper. He led his team in receiving touchdowns in his senior year with 8, while getting 26 catches for 517 yards. Hunter received a scholarship to play football at Bowling Green State University.
Hunter also played basketball and baseball during high school. He played basketball his freshman and sophomore years, and baseball through his junior year. He participated in track and field in his senior spring.
Hunter thanked his parents and coaches “for everything they have done.” He said, “My parents constantly push me to be all that I can be and to push myself.” He also thanked his coaches, especially head coach Tim Rogers. Rogers was Hunter’s football coach “for only one year, but it didn’t seem like it. Coach Rogers worked every day to help me reach my goal to play at the college level.” Hunter also thanked Coach Blackwell, Coach Hartman, and Coach Ezeh “for everything they have done for me this season.”
